LogistikPlan industry sector: Paper, Printing & Building Materials
An industry under pressure
Even though our supermarket purchases still cannot be packaged in a tablet and still require the traditional paper bag, nearly all other printed products are gradually being replaced by computers, smartphones and similar devices.
► Transformation with an uncertain outcome
The printing industry is undergoing a difficult transformation, as technological change in the advertising and media industries is shaping entirely new user behavior. As printed and digital editions coexist, print runs are gradually declining and disappearing.
Traditional printing companies rely on digitalized and automated workflows as well as optimized setup and printing processes. However, low-cost providers and online printing companies are driving a price spiral that has led to a tangible cost crisis. With increasingly time-critical Lead Times and very high customer expectations regarding quality, the printing industry is facing a major balancing act.
The paper industry, by contrast, remains relatively stable. Although less printing is taking place, demand for packaging paper is increasing. While paper manufacturers that recycle waste paper invest in stable Supply Chains, sorting and processing, processors of fresh pulp must deal with strongly fluctuating raw material prices.
► Concepts for the entire Value Chain:
Due to the wide variety of economic conditions and technical and logistics challenges, LogistikPlan supports printing companies and paper manufacturers with individual tasks and solution approaches.
With our understanding of the entire Value Chain, our clients benefit – particularly in logistics-related topics – from our insights into paper processing operations and printing technologies.
At the same time, we contribute impulses from other industries, for example in the following areas
- Concepts for the modernization of Production Logistics, control systems and Material Flow
- Layout planning for Material Flow-oriented Intralogistics (e.g. between prepress, printing and finishing)
- Warehouse planning for production materials, packaging materials and Shipping warehouses
- Lean Production and Lean Logistics (e.g. through the introduction of tugger trains)
- Process optimization and standardization (e.g. for transports, containers and Load Carriers)
- Optimization of changeover processes (e.g. through multi-machine operation at printing presses)
- Safety concepts (for improvements in areas such as load securing and transport, fire protection and occupational safety)
