Value Stream Design
Strengthen the Value Stream
That value stream analysis is a powerful tool for optimizing existing processes is well known to production and logistics managers today – but is it also suitable for new planning from scratch?
► How value stream design helps with optimization:
- Applicable to almost all manufacturing and logistics processes – in production, warehousing, and administration
- Using the value stream method, we
- systematically capture the current (as-is) process
- describe process elements with all relevant key figures
- make waste visible
- identify solution approaches and their cost benefits
- LogistikPlan supports you in optimizing the entire order throughput as well as individual process steps and their logistical coordination.
► How value stream design supports new planning:
- LogistikPlan also successfully applies value stream design methods when planning new processes – for example, when setting up high-volume production.
- The value stream tool is particularly suitable for production and logistics managers who want to implement complex or time-critical production processes.
► Who benefits most from value stream design:
- The method is well suited for companies with large- and medium-scale series production, for example
- in the automotive supplier industry
- in machine tool and printing machine manufacturing
- We have also gained strong experience with value stream design
- in high-tech companies (equipment manufacturing, medical devices, electronics, sensor technology)
- and in the process industry (specialty chemicals, construction materials, food production)
- In contrast, value stream design is only of limited use in companies with high-variant or one-off production.
► Value stream design in a medical technology project example:
- The objective of our customer, one of the world’s leading medical device manufacturers, was to build a completely new, modular lean factory in Germany for the production and assembly of filtration systems for hemodialysis.
- The value stream concept developed by LogistikPlan clearly visualizes where significant savings can be achieved compared to the previously defined production process. As a result, targeted development of solutions for process optimization, automation, and lean-oriented production logistics was initiated.
- The medical technology sector is subject to the Medical Devices Act (MPG) and other strict EU regulations. These make subsequent changes to already certified processes more difficult. Thorough advance planning of all optimization measures is therefore even more critical.
► Results at a glance:
- Visualization of material and information flows across the entire production and logistics system
- Optimized target state for production and intralogistics
- Lean processes in the factory or logistics center
- Radically reduced lead times and clear rules for production control
